“For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep (die) in Jesus will God bring with Him”. 1Thess 4:14.
Common to several people when writing tributes through the media or when giving a speech about the death (either sudden/aged) of an individual is the arbitrary use of the word “LOSS” of so so and so. Christians of different ranks also fall into this I tagged ‘easily besetting temptation’. I made a costly assumption to believe that some bookworms (undergraduate to probably PhD level) will be better informed, but no, it is unfortunate that a leopard cannot change its skin.
Some years back, a white man opined that ‘to keep a secret from the black, kindly hide it in a book’, and I thought, oh, the white must have lived to always discover all secrets that surrounds the earth they live in but alas even this appears to be a chasing after the wind for them too, a perfect confirmation of Eccl 3:11 “He hath made everything beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end”. But “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ”. 1Cor 2:16.
You need to know that your thoughts (psychology) will hinder your either going to hell or having eternal life with God. What is the mind of Christ about the dead? What is the plan of God about those who are asleep and buried? We have the mind of Christ and therefore not sorrowful, we are not helpless and neither are we hopeless.
If Christ has not risen we would have been the most miserable dogmatic living individuals, if Christ has not ascended before the very eyes of our fellow brethren whose testimonies are true, proven, tested and trusted till present becoming more real to we of the present age, oh! We would have become another sect of confusionists… We are not running a loss in any way, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints” Psalm 116:15. If the death of the saints can be so precious in the sight of God, why then do we tag their death ‘huge loss, great loss’ etc. it’s a glorious exit I tell you, it’s a glorious transition into a world of peace and tranquility, but for only the saints in Christ Jesus, for Christ is what brings us to this very end especially believing in His resurrection which quicken our mortal bodies.
The death of great men of faith and of old are not a loss to us, men like Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth E. Hagin, Smith Wigglesworth, Joseph Ayo Babalola, Baba Obadare, just to mention but few weren’t a loss at all, also not to mention the death of saints who are alive at the moment. Paul said and am saying “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain”. If there is any spiritual exploit we found so great and whose replica we desire, then we should seek and thirst for it, and not simply assume such had died with these men and therefore cannot happen in our own dispensation. Remember that all these men were subjected to the like passions like we are today, yet Jesus said to them and He is saying to us, “greater works will you do if you believe in me”, don’t believe in mortal, belief in Jesus.
So, of course, Christians do not have any loss. We shall all gather at the feast of the lamp. That is why it’s expedient we minister the love of Christ to all and sundry that we all may rejoice again when the roll is call up yonder.
But if you believe you are still running a loss, it’s invariably a confession of going to inherit the other judgment, the other judgment we all don’t want to be a part of, and of course I want to believe no matter how sinful an individual was on earth, you picture them resting in the bosom of the Lord (and I will leave you to imagine the opposite of that).
We all easily say “REST IN PEACE”, but even the book of wisdom says “there is no peace for the wicked”. Only those who have been with Jesus and exchange yokes for yokes will find rest for their souls both at the end of life and in this life. Matthew 11:28-30.
